The Scanscapes photo series is an ongoing photographic project that began in 2019. The images are created using a flatbed scanner, A4 sheets of paper, and a red transparency to generate the motifs. In some of the works, the paper has been physically altered or moved during the scanning process.

Process
Scanscapes explores the photographic image without the use of a traditional camera.
Each work is created through direct scanning, where white A4 sheets function as both surface and subject. The paper is sometimes torn, folded, or displaced during the scan, capturing traces of movement, tension, and physical presence. A red transparency is occasionally used to introduce color, atmosphere, and optical depth.
The scanner itself acts as both recording device and light source. It translates the smallest variations in texture and translucency into gradients of tone and shadow. The process relies entirely on the optical mechanism of the scanner — no retouching, layering, or digital manipulation is applied unless explicitly stated.
Both CIS (Contact Image Sensor) and CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) flatbed scanners have been used in the making of the series, each with its own way of capturing detail and light. The resulting images appear as abstract “landscapes” of paper and light — compositions that exist somewhere between documentation and transformation.
Through this process, Scanscapes examines how a mechanical act of reproduction can become a generative artistic method.
It is a study of material, surface, and the quiet movement that occurs when light passes across paper.
